Kiwanis Club of Joliet remains resilient despite the challenges of COVID-19

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Chartered in 1920, The Kiwanis Club of Joliet’s mission is to serve the local community.  In 2020, the Kiwanis Club of Joliet celebrated 100 years of service. While the celebration to commemorate that momentous occasion had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, the club and it’s members have remained steadfast in their service.

Through virtual meetings and virtual social gatherings the club has been able to conquer the challenges of the pandemic and continue to find unique ways to safely serve children and the community.

In October of each year as Kiwanis members come together for Kiwanis One Day – a day of community service that is felt around the world. The “One-Day” objective is to unite volunteers to participate on the this year, on October 24, the Kiwanis Club of Joliet observed One Day 2020 by collecting, delivering and stocking items to benefit Morning Star Mission.

This continues to be the largest fundraiser for the Joliet club to assist community organizations.  In 2020, members took advantage of social media and other safe and socially distanced ways to carry on with the annual Kiwanis Peanuts days.  As a result, over 16,500 bags of peanuts and gummy bears were donated to US Troops and over $10,000 will be donated to local charities.
